1st Rounder Max Pentecost joins Canadians
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club has announced that Toronto Blue Jays catching prospect Max Pentecost has been added to the current roster and will be in the line-up as the C's host Eugene at 7:05pm out at Scotiabank Field.
Pentecost, 21, was selected in the 1st Round (11th overall) of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays after playing three seasons at Kennesaw State University.
Just weeks ago, Pentecost was named the 2014 recipient of the coveted Johnny Bench Award given to the most complete catcher in the NCAA after hitting .422 (113-for-268) with nine (9) home runs, 24 doubles and 61 RBI for Kennesaw State.
Of the past 15 catchers to receive the Johnny Bench Award, 11 have gone on to play in the Major Leagues. Pentecost is the fourth highest pick to win the national honour following Jeff Clement (3rd overall), Mike Zunino (3rd overall) and Buster Posey (5th overall).
In addition to his efforts at Kennesaw State University, Pentecost was named Most Valuable Player of the highly-touted Cape Cod League which brings together many of baseball's top prospects each summer.
Pentecost has played in six professional games within the Blue Jays organization as he suited up for the Gulf Coast Blue Jays (rookie) hitting .364 over his first 22 at-bats.
The Canadians continue a current eight-game home stand against the Eugene Emeralds tonight at Scotiabank Field with first pitch set for 7:05pm.
