Ovalle, Snappers thump Bees

Edward Ovalle blasted a grand slam in the eighth inning as Beloit cruised past visiting Burlington, 7-2, on Sunday.

With a 3-2 Snappers lead, Ovalle stepped in to face Gilbert De La Vara and launched his shot over the center-field wall. Paul Kelley homered, singled and scored twice for Beloit (24-24), while Dwayne White slapped three singles and scored a run.

Snappers reliever Danny Vais (1-2) tossed two scoreless frames to get the win, yielding a hit and striking out two without issuing a walk. Starter Brian Duensing gave up two runs on six hits in six innings, fanning three and walking two.

De La Vara (2-2) surrendered five runs on three hits without recording an out to suffer the loss. Bees starter Christopher Nicoll yielded two runs on six hits and struck out three in seven innings.

Joshua Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Valentino Arce drove in a run on a fielder's choice to pace Burlington (23-24). -- Christopher Heine/MLB.com
