Cubs dominated by Tomshaw in Schwarber debut
Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Cubs fell 5-1 to the Fort Myers Miracle on Wednesday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Miracle used single runs in four-straight innings between the third and the sixth to climb and extends their lead.
Chicago Cubs 2014 first round pick (fourth overall) OF Kyle Schwarber went 0-for-2 with two walks in his Daytona debut after being promoted from A-Kane County on Tuesday.
Daytona starter RHP Jose Rosario (L, 4-6) retired the first eight batters of the game, but surrendered four runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work.
LHP Matt Tomshaw (W, 8-2) dominated the Cubs offense all night. He pitched eight innings and allowed the run on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Tomshaw did not allow a hit in five of the first six innings.
Cubs RF Billy McKinney went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and has reached base in each of his 10 games with the Daytona Cubs.
DH Bijan Rademacher extended his on-base streak to 27-straight games with a single in the seventh. He finished 1-for-4.
RHP Tyler Bremer tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Rosario for Daytona, & RHP Yao-Lin Wang pitched the ninth inning and surrendered an unearned run.
With the loss, the Cubs fall to 41-51 on the season and 15-9 in the second half. Daytona and Brevard County are tied atop the Florida State League North in the second half standings. The Cubs and Miracle will play game two of the four-game series on Thursday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
