After Chuckie Jones walked, Brandon Bednar lifted a sacrifice fly to right plating Galindo with the first run of the contest. Jones then stole second and scored when the next batter, Delfino, lined a single into center. Two batters later, Blair smacked a two-out double off the wall in deep right center to bring home Delfino for a 3-0 advantage.

Young began his outing with two scoreless innings before running into trouble in the top of the third. Jeudy Valdez led off with a single and advanced to second when Rodriguez grounded out. After Mallix Smith reached on a bunt single, Benji Gonzalez lined an RBI double down the right field line. The hit brought Lake Elsinore to within 3-1, but with runners at second and third, Young registered consecutive strikeouts of Dane Phillips and Gabriel Quintana to end the inning.

The Giants then got the run back in the bottom of the third to push their lead up to 4-1. Back-to-back singles from Jones and Bednar put runners on first and second with none out before Delfino grounded an RBI single up the middle.

After Young pitched around a two-out single and a walk in the top of the fourth, the Storm rallied in the fifth. Smith led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Gonzalez walked, Phillips grounded a double down the left field line plating Smith to cut the San Jose lead to 4-2. However, with again runners at second and third, Young was able to limit the damage. Quintana followed with a fly out to shallow right, Luis Domoromo struck out swinging and Jeremy Baltz grounded out to finish the inning and keep the score at 4-2.

Young returned to the mound in the top of the sixth and issued a leadoff walk, but quickly recovered to set down the next three hitters. San Jose then scored twice in the bottom of the frame to extend their advantage to 6-2. After a leadoff walk to Blair, Shawn Payne singled to left. Trevor Brown then popped out on a bunt attempt, but Alberto Robles followed with a single into left scoring Blair with the first run of the inning. Payne advanced to third while Robles took second on the throw home and then Galindo delivered an RBI groundout to make it 6-2.

Tyler Rogers relieved Young to begin the top of the seventh and breezed through his first inning of work before the Giants plated two more runs in the bottom half. With Delfino at first base and two outs, Blair slammed an RBI double off the fence in deep center field. Then after Payne walked, Brown blooped a single into shallow center to score Blair for an 8-2 cushion.

In the top of the eighth, Rogers (2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) surrendered three straight singles to start the inning as the Storm loaded the bases, but Lake Elsinore managed just one run on a Valdez sacrifice fly. Rogers finished the inning with back-to-back strikeouts. Stephen Johnson (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) then needed just six pitches to toss a 1-2-3 top of the ninth sealing the San Jose victory.
