Visalia Snaps Inland Empire's 9 Game Winning Streak

Derek Feldkamp Made his Best Start of the Year
May 31, 2006
Derek Feldkamp pitched seven shutout innings as visiting Visalia ended Inland Empire's nine-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

Feldkamp retired 11 straight batters before Michael Wilson doubled with two outs in the sixth. The 23-year-old right-hander set down the last four batters he faced.

Feldkamp escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first as Brent Johnson and Yung Chi Chen singled and Reed Eastley walked. Feldkamp struck out Michael Wilson before first baseman Chris Nowak snagged a line drive off the bat of Matt Tuiasosopo and Matt Rogelstad flied out.

The 66ers (31-20) got a run in the eighth off reliever Brett Wayne. Brent Johnson drew a one-out walk, stole second, took third on a flyout and scored on a single by Reed Eastley. Richard De Los Santos allowed a leadoff double to Tuiasosopo in the ninth but stranded him to pick up his seventh save.

Two errors contributed to both Visalia runs in the fifth. Josh Asanovich led off with a single and went to second on an error by Chen at second base. An errant pickoff attempt by starter Ivan Blanco (5-2) moved the runners to second and third before Shaun Cumberland singled them home.

Cumberland went 3-for-4, giving him half of Visalia's six hits. He is second in the league with 45 RBIs.

Asanovich went 2-for-3 for the Oaks (24-28).
