Wings top Indians in bottom of the 9th
Nate Hanson's single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Rochester Red Wings a 1-0 win over the Indianapolis Indians Saturday night at Frontier Field, before a crowd of 10,212. The teams play Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.; kids can run the bases with Spikes and Mittsy after the game, followed by our Latino Day concert with salsa star Jose Alberto.

The Red Wings turned to lefty Sean Gilmartin to attempt to stretch their winning streak to four games. Gilmartin has turned in three straight quality starts, allowing eight earned runs in 18 2/3 innings with 17 strikeouts over that stretch. The Wings once again welcomed back a familiar face to the confines of Frontier Field to start on the mound for the opposition. Rafael Perez (0-0, 0.73) is the third starting pitcher to face the Wings back at Frontier Field this season.
Gilmartin worked around a lead off single to turn in a scoreless first. After Robert Andino singled to lead off the inning, he was moved to second on a Jaff Decker ground ball. Gilmartin, however, got the next two batters to fly out.
After a sacrifice bunt in the top of the third, the Indians had runners at 2nd and 3rd with only one out. The Wings remained unblemished with a superb defensive play by right fielder Chris Rahl. Jaff Decker came to the plate and lofted a ball right to Rahl. Omir Santos felt the ball was deep enough to score, and broke for home. Rahl gunned the ball home, reaching Josmil Pinto just in time. Pinto swung around and tagged a sliding Santos to record the third out, keeping the game scoreless.
The Wings had their first runner in scoring position in the home half of the fourth. After being held hitless in the second and third, Eric Farris led off the inning with a single. James Beresford moved him to second with a bunt, giving the Wings their first runner at second, with just one out. However, the Wings threat was short lived, as Hanson lined out to Andino at shortstop, who quickly threw to second, doubling off Farris in the process.
Farris made a great catch in the fifth, making a long run to take away what would have been a lead-off extra base hit by Tony Sanchez.
Gilmartin's night ended after he recorded one out in the top of the eighth. Gilmartin turned in a beauty, giving up no runs, on five hits, striking out four in the process (92 pitches, 58 strikes). Replacing Gilmartin, making his Wings debut, was the newly acquired Stephen Pryor. Pryor was acquired by the Twins on Thursday in a trade with Seattle. Pryor worked around a walk and stolen base to get the final two outs of the half-inning.
Michael Tonkin took over on the mound in the ninth for the Red Wings, and Andrew Lambo led off with a bloop single that fell just in front of left fielder Reynaldo Rodriguez. A bunt moved Lambo to second base, then Tonkin hit Sanchez with a pitch to put runners at first and second. A groundout moved the runners over to second and third with two outs, but Tonkin (3-3) made a nice snag of a ball hit by Omir Santos to end the threat.
Perez worked eight innings for the Indians, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out four. Perez threw 97 pitches, 63 for strikes. Josh Wall (0-3) took over in the bottom of the ninth, and walked Farris. Beresford bunted Farris to second base, and an intentional walk to Pinto gave the Wings runners at first and second with one out. That set up Hanson's base hit up the middle on an 0-1 pitch, scoring Farris with the winning run.

1983: Dan Logan and Dan Purpura combined to execute a 3-6-3 triple play in a 6-2 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens at Silver Stadium. The triple play was the Wings' first since John O'Rear's unassisted triple play in 1977 and the first at Silver Stadium since 1970...2006: Alex Romero had three hits and three RBI, and Pete Munro combined with Kevin Cameron on a seven-hit outing, leading the Red Wings over the Charlotte Knights 6-1 at Frontier Field.
1959 - The early morning hours of July 26 find the game between Rochester and Havana from the night before still going! The evening's best drama occurs after midnight, when a Cuban military and
