Pinto's Grand Slam too Much to Overcome
ROCHESTER, NY -- Josmil Pinto lifted his second game-winning homer of the series, belting a fifth-inning grand slam that paced the Rochester Red Wings' (60-48) 6-3 win and extend the Indianapolis Indians' (56-54) winless streak to seven games on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field.
Starter Brandon Cumpton outdueled his counterpart in 2013 Indians ace Kris Johnson through the first four frames. The Tribe's right-hander was spotted an early run when Chase d'Aranaud ripped a leadoff single in the first, took second on a grounder from Jaff Decker and scored on an RBI knock from Mel Rojas Jr.
Cumpton and Johnson then each followed with scoreless innings, including Cumpton improving to just one earned run over his first 40 innings on the road, before two singles and a walk set the stage for a Red Wings slam in the fifth.
Daniel Ortiz homered with one out in the sixth and Eric Farris plated the previously hit-by-pitch Dan Rohlfing with a sac fly to extend Rochester's lead to 6-1.
Red Wings lefty and 2013 Indians Pitcher of the Year Johnson earned the win with three runs in 7 2/3 innings. He retired 21 of 23 batters from the first to the seventh, until three eighth-inning singles broke the stretch and cut Rochester's lead to 6-3.
