White Sox assign Rodon to Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 29, 2014) - The Chicago White Sox have announced that left-hander Carlos Rodon has been assigned to the Dash from the Arizona League White Sox before Wednesday's 12 p.m. game against the Frederick Keys at BB&T Ballpark.

Rodon is scheduled to pitch out of the Dash's bullpen on Wednesday. To make room for Rodon and right-hander Dave Putman, who was activated from the disabled list, both infielder Grant Buckner and righty Kyle Hansen have been promoted to Double-A Birmingham.

Rodon made his first two Minor League appearances in the Arizona League after signing with the White Sox on July 11. Last month, the White Sox drafted Rodon out of North Carolina State University with the third overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. This was the highest draft pick by the White Sox since the club selected Harold Baines with the top pick in 1977.

MLB.com lists Rodon as the top prospect in the White Sox system and the 23rd-best among all current Minor Leaguers. Baseball America considered Rodon the best college prospect in this year's draft class.

The Holly Springs, N.C., native's 436 career strikeouts represent an NC State record, and he is one of four pitchers in ACC history to record more than 400 strikeouts. Rodon guided the Wolfpack to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and 2013. He became the first freshman to win ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2012. One year later, Rodon led the program to its first College World Series appearance since 1968.

This past season, Rodon finished his NC State career strongly by posting a 6-7 record and a 2.01 earned run average in 14 starts. He whiffed 117 batters over 98.2 innings of work.
