Can He Do It? Kyle Schwar Can!
Daytona Beach, FL - C Kyle Schwarber's 10th inning 2-run blast to right launched the Daytona Cubs to a 6-4 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The win was Daytona's seventh in-a-row, & sixth walk-off victory this season.
With the game tied 4-4 in the 10th, SS Marco Hernandez singled to center with one out to put the potential game-winning run on base. Three pitches later, Schwarber tattooed the game-ending home run over the right field fence, his second long-ball with Daytona & 10th since being selected fourth overall by the Cubs in June's MLB Draft.
With the game tied 4-4 in the eighth, RHP Yao-Lin Wang escaped a jam featuring 2B Max Moroff on third with nobody out. Wang walked 3B Eric Wood, induced a double play started by 2B Gioskar Amaya that kept Moroff on third, & struck out CF Justin Maffei to end the inning. The outing was Wang's third-straight escaping a situation with a runner on third with less than two outs without the run scoring.
RHP Stephen Perakslis (W, 2-0) earned his second victory of the season with two scoreless innings in relief of Wang. Perakslis also evaded trouble. In the 10th, 1B Jose Osuna was on second base with no outs, but Perakslis kept Osuna from scoring.
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, the Cubs rallied to tie the game thanks to a RF Billy McKinney sacrifice fly and 3B Wes Darvill two-out RBI single to right.
LHP Rob Zastryzny took a no-decision with 5.2 innings of work. He surrendered the four runs, all earned, on eight hits with two walks & four strikeouts. The Cubs are 6-0 in Zastryzny's last six starts.
Amaya went 3-for-4 in the game, and extended his season-long hitting streak to 11-straight games.
Darvill went 2-for-4 with a double, run and the RBI, and has reached base in 46 of his last 48 games.
The Daytona Cubs' bullpen has not surrendered a run in its last 13.1 innings pitched.
With the win, Daytona improved to 51-54 on the season, and a league-best 25-12 in the second half, 4.5 games ahead of the Brevard County Manatees.
The Cubs and Marauders are scheduled to play game three of the four game series on Wednesday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
