Houston's No. 2 prospect leads league in ERA, strikeouts
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Round Rock right-hander Bud Norris as the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 15-21.
Ranked as Houston's No. 2 prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2009 season, Norris has allowed three or more earned runs in just two of his 13 starts and is in the midst of 19 consecutive shutout innings dating back three starts to June 4. Norris has allowed one or fewer runs on six occasions, has fanned eight or more hitters four times and leads the PCL with 82 strikeouts against 65 hits in 81 innings.
In his first start last week, he tossed eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts against Nashville to earn the victory. He followed that start with another eight scoreless innings and 10 strikeouts against New Orleans but took the no-decision when Round Rock won 5-4 in 11 innings.
Fans can vote online for Norris and their favorite PCL players to give them the chance to play in the 2009 Triple-A All-Star Game to be held July 15th in Portland, Oregon. All-Star ballots can be found on the official Pacific Coast League website (www.pclbaseball.com) and will conclude on Friday, June 26.
