Cassel Inks With Indians

ROUND ROCK -- Jack Cassel, older brother of New England quarterback Matt Cassel, agreed last week to a minor-league contract with the Cleveland Indians, ending his tenure as one of Round Rock's strongest starters.

Cassel, 28, has appeared in 15 games (seven starts) over parts of the last two seasons with the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros. He made nine appearances (three starts) for Houston in 2008, going 1-1 with a 5.64 ERA. He was 9-5 over 19 appearances (17 starts) with the Express, carving out a 3.69 ERA.

Cassel has a career Major League record of 2-2 with a 4.92 ERA in 53 innings. Drafted by the Padres in the 25th round in 2000, he has a minor league career record of 51-56 record and 4.04 ERA in 348 games.
