Red Barons down Tribe 3-1; split four-game set
The Red Barons, who improve to 2-2 on their eight-game road trip, improve to 31-25. The Indians, who have now dropped back-to-back affairs after winning six straight, fall to 32-23.
Scranton/W-B still occupies second place in the International League's North Division, while the Tribe will hold continue to hold the top spot in the IL West for a 44th consecutive day.
Scranton/W-B C Carlos Ruiz opened the fourth inning with a walk and RF Josh Kroeger roped a single through the left side before 3B Brennan King hammered a two-run triple to right. King then came plateward on 1B Dusty Wathan's double to left.
Indianapolis scored its only run of the afternoon in the first when 1B Chris Richard blasted his fifth home run of the season -- a solo shot to right. Richard has now reached base safely in 20 consecutive games. During the streak, he is hitting .279 (19-for-68) with 10 runs, six doubles, two triples, four roundtrippers and 17 RBI.
Wathan was the only individual from either dugout to register a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
Scranton/W-B RHP Seung-Hak Lee (6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) picked up the win, improving to 5-4. RHP Dan Giese (2.0 IP, 2 SO) bridged the gap to RHP Ryan Cameron (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), who notched his sixth save of the campaign.
Indianapolis LHP Tom Gorzelanny (6.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 4-4. RHP Terry Adams (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 2 SO) and RHP Jonah Bayliss (2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 2 SO) shut out the Red Barons over a combined three frames, but did not factor in the decision.
Indianapolis welcomes Pawtucket to Victory Field for a four-game series, beginning Monday night at 7 p.m. RHP Brandon Duckworth is scheduled to start for the Indians, while LHP Jon Lester is expected to get the nod for the PawSox.
