Kenny Wilson Makes Most Of Debut
"Welcome To The Party, Pal!" - - - Lt. John McClane (Bruce Willis), Die Hard
Kenny Wilson has had an "interesting" year (see below). It's sometimes just the "nature of the game" but, in the first four months of the season, he has played for five teams (one of them twice) and three organizations. Kenny made his debut with the RockHounds Friday, (by pure coincidence, the first day of the season's fifth month) … and appears to have found a home.
Wilson's two-run double, a laser to the left field bullpen fence in the fifth, erased a 2-0 Corpus Christi lead and he scored the go-ahead run moments later, when Conner Crumbliss ripped a two-run home run to the right field bullpen. Wilson also had a pair of strikeouts, but flashed his outstanding speed in the eighth, reaching on a chopper to third and stealing second base.
In the at-bat following his home run, Crumbliss dropped down a perfect bunt for a two-out, bases-empty single in the seventh. He scored on D'Arby Myers' double to deep left (D'Arby's second RBI double in as many nights), with Jefry Marte then driving Myers home with a single to center, building the lead to 6-2. Marte finished the night going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
The Hooks got right back in the game at the expense of reliever Jose Flores, who allowed two runs on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch in just one-third of an inning. Marcus Walden hit Tony Kemp with an 0-1 pitch to load the bases before getting out of the inning when Ruben Sosa grounded into a beautifully turned 6-4-3 (Crumbliss to Dusty Coleman to Blake Forsythe) double play.
Chad Oberacker had a big night, going 3-for-4, scoring a run, driving in an insurance run with an eighth-inning double, and making a terrific, sliding catch in right field to end the fifth. After "Obie's" two-bagger made the score 7-4, Walden earned his second save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Kibbles & Bits
- The RockHounds are now 21-9 (.700) in their last 30 games and 46-30 against the South Division (four games better than Frisco at 42-34) … at 64-48, the club is a half-game in back of (64-47) Frisco for the Texas League's best overall … the 'Hounds lead the season series with the Hooks, 17-9 … 8-8 at Whataburger Field and 9-1 at Security Bank Ballpark … the clubs do not meet in Corpus Christi again this season.
The RockHounds (26-16) lead Frisco (24-18) by two games, with San Antonio (21-21 after a 4-1 home loss to the RoughRiders) falling five back and Corpus Christi (18-24) now eight games out in the TL South second half race.
In 2013, the RockHounds were 31-39 both at home and on the road. The club has equaled its road win total of a year ago (31-26) with 13 away games remaining, and has now eclipsed last year's home win total (33-22) with 15 games yet to be played at Security Bank Ballpark.
- Outfielder Kenny Wilson has been assigned to the RockHounds from (Triple-A) Sacramento. The former second round draft pick (2008) of the Toronto Blue Jays was hitting .135 in 14 games for the RiverCats. The 2014 season has been a whirlwind for the 24-year-old native of Tampa, Florida … he is now playing for his third organization, one of them twice. Kenny opened the year with Toronto's Double-A club in the Eastern League (the New Hampshire Fisher Cats), but was claimed by the Minnesota Twins when the Blue Jays took him off their 40-man roster. Ironically, he stayed in the Eastern League, playing for the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins affiliate) before being re-claimed by the Jays after being designated for assignment by Minnesota. He was again assigned to New Hampshire for his third "tour of duty" in the EL. After a stint with (Triple-A) Buffalo, he was placed on waivers and claimed by Oakland (July 7). While his career average is just .227, Kenny has outstanding speed, rated an "80" on the scouting scale (the highest possible rating, similar to former RockHound Billy Burns).
- The 'Hounds are home at Security Bank Ballpark through August 10 (10 games in 11 days), including Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) games against the Hooks. The Texas League then takes its first scheduled off day since July 8 on Monday, followed by a pair of three-game sets with Tulsa and Springfield (cross-division play). Saturday's game will be followed by a fireworks show.
