Kris Bryant Bobblehead Giveaway Aug. 16

The Smokies have announced they will be giving away a bobblehead likeness of 2014 Smokies third baseman Kris Bryant on Saturday, August 16 before their contest against the Huntsville Stars at 6:15 p.m. Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch at 5:15 p.m.
Bryant enjoyed a breakout 2014 first half with Tennessee, posting a .355 batting average (88-248) with 61 runs, 20 doubles, 22 homers and 58 RBI in his 68 games. At the time of his promotion on June 18, the 22-year-old ranked first in most offensive categories in the Southern League, and continues to pace the circuit in home runs despite not playing in a game since June 15.
The Las Vegas, Nevada native busted out with an outstanding May for the Smokies, recording a .407 average (44-108) with 30 runs, seven doubles, 12 homers and 34 RBI en route to being named the Chicago Cubs' Minor League Player of the Month. Two of those longballs came in the same game on May 7 against the Birmingham Barons at Smokies Stadium, marking the first multi-homer game in Bryant's professional career.
The right-handed slugger continued his impressive streak at the plate through the first half of June for Tennessee, compiling a .373 average with five homers and 12 RBI. That month the third baseman would be named a Southern League All-Star, and started for the North Division squad at third at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The night before the league's Mid-Summer Classic, Bryant won the 2014 Southern League Home Run Derby at Historic Engel Field, putting on a show and totaling 14 roundtrippers over three rounds to top Mobile BayBears first baseman Jonathan Griffin.
Prior to the beginning of the Smokies' second half of the year, the Cubs announced Bryant's promotion to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Through 44 contests with the I-Cubs this season, the infielder has hit .308 (48-156) with 14 homers and 34 RBI. Just before that promotion, though, Bryant was able to play catch on the field with his father, Mike, before the Smokies' contest on Father's Day.
Overall in 2014 between the two stops, Bryant has accumulated a .337 average (136-404) with 36 big flies and 92 RBI in 112 total contests. Entering play on August 4, second overall pick by the Cubs in the 2013 MLB Draft leads all Minor Leaguers in extra-base hits (68) and total bases (276), in addition to ranking second in homers and runs scored (96) and tied for third in RBI.
Bryant's 22 homers this season with the Smokies rank as the fifth-most in a single-season since the team began playing at Smokies Stadium in 2000, while his .355 average falls two at bats short of the best mark in that time frame.
Tickets for Saturday, August 16, as well as the remainder of the Smokies' 2014 home slate are still available and can be purchased online by clicking here, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 286-2300.
