Beresford named Batavia Downs POTW

Rochester Red Wings infielder James Beresford has been named the Batavia Downs Gaming and Racetrack Player of the Week for the period of July 28-August 3.

For the week, Beresford batted .458 (11-for-24) with four doubles, five runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base. His one-out single in the ninth inning Sunday night started a rally that tied the game, which the Wings went on to win in 15 innings. Beresford had his second 4-hit game this season on Saturday and now has six, four-hit games in his career. Entering play Sunday, Beresford led all IL second basemen in several defensive categories including G (101), TC (497), PO (220), Assists (266), E (11) and DP (69).

In his 8th pro season, all in the Twins organization, after signing as an undrafted free agent on 8/13/05...played for Team Australia in the 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classics...has struck out only 351 times in 2,775 plate appearances coming into Sunday's game.

Batavia Downs Racetrack, America's oldest lighted harness track, features live races until December 6. There will be Sunday afternoon racing at Batavia Downs from July 27 through August 31 with a 1:15 p.m. post. Matinees are also scheduled for Labor Day, September 1 and Columbus Day, October 13 also with 1:15 p.m. starts.
