August 4, 2014

STOCKTON, Calif.-  Matt Olson, the Stockton Ports' starting first baseman, is currently leading Class A in homeruns with 32, making him a contender for the Joe Bauman Home Run Award.

Olson, currently the Athletics' second top prospect, is batting .255 with 76 RBI. The infielder led the Class A Beloit Snappers in RBI last season with 93.

Ports' third baseman Renato Nunez, the organization's third top prospect, is second to Olson with 27 home runs on the year. The pair now holds the Ports' record for home runs hit by two teammates in one season.

The Joe Bauman Home Run Award honors the regular season home run leader in the domestic-based leagues and is currently being led by third baseman Joey Gallo of the Frisco RoughRiders. The winner will be presented with a check that includes $200 for each home run he hits. Classification leaders will receive a $500 prize.

The 2014 Award winner will be announced on September 2nd and will be honored on December 8th at the Baseball Winter Meeting Awards Luncheon held in San Diego, California.

The Ports will be hosting the Visalia Rawhide starting tonight in a three-game series. Tickets are available by visiting the Ports Box Office, at stocktonports.com, or by calling 209-644-1900.
