Former Ems and OSU Catcher Mitch Canham Part of Recent Padres Moves

PEORIA, AZ - The San Diego Padres announced that they have reassigned three players to minor league camp, optioned two players to Triple-A Portland and optioned two players to Double-A San Antonio.

Among the reassigned players are former Ems catcher and OSU alumnus Mitch Canham and former Ems pitcher Jackson Quezada.

Canham, taken in the first round of the 2007 draft by the Padres, played 28 games with the Emeralds in 2007 before being promoted to the Lake Elsinore Storm (High-A). In Eugene, he hit .293 with 50 hits, four doubles, a triple, two homers, 18 RBI and 20 runs scored. With Oregon State, Canham batted .326 with 13 doubles, a triple, 10 homers, 59 RBI and 52 runs scored in 65 games for the College World Series Champion Beavers in 2007.

The past two years, Canham continued to move up through the Padres organization, spending the 2008 season with the Lake Elsinore Storm (High-A) and the 2009 season with the San Antonio Missions (Double-A).

Right-handed pitcher Jackson Quezada also spent the 2007 season with Eugene. In 21 games and 24 innings pitched, Quezada came out with a 3-2 record and 3.75 ERA and 29 strikeouts before his season was cut short because of an injury. He spent the 2008 season with the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Low-A) but missed all of 2009 due to injury.

Other moves include catcher Mike Collins' minor league reassignment, left-handed pitchers Aaron Poreda and Cesar Ramos optioned to the Portland Beavers (Triple-A) and left-handed pitcher Steve Garrison and right-handed pitcher Craig Italiano optioned to the San Antonio Missions (Double-A).

With the most recent moves, the Padres now have 47 players in Major League camp, including 36 players from the 40-man roster and 11 non-roster invitees.
