Daniel Norris joins Bisons' rotation
The Buffalo Bisons announced that LHP DANIEL NORRIS has been promoted to the team from Double-A New Hampshire. He will start for the Herd tonight against the Durham Bulls at Durham Bulls Athletic Park (7:05 p.m. - Time Warner Cable Sports Channel 323, ESPN 1520 AM, WGR Sportsradio 550).
The Bisons also announced that RHP P.J. WALTERS has been transferred to Double-A New Hampshire.
Norris, 21, is the Blue Jays' #6 prospect by Baseball America and is in just his third professional season after the Blue Jays selected him in the 2nd round of the 2011 June draft. The southpaw has made 21 starts between Single-A Dunedin and New Hampshire this year and is a combined 9-1 with a 2.38 ERA with only 82 hits allowed to 125 strikeouts in 102.0 innings of work. He has also walked just 35 and yielded only five home runs during the 2014 season.
Norris began the year with Dunedin and was a perfect 6-0 with a 1.22 ERA in 13 starts. He did not allow more than three runs in any start and shut out his opponents in seven of the starts. He then made his Double-A debut with the Fisher Cats on June 18 and went 3-1 with a 4.54 ERA in his next eight starts. He struck out 10 on two occasions this year, including his first Double-A win, June 24 in Portland.
Norris has allowed only two runs in his last three Double-A starts and struck out eight batters in a victory over Erie in his last outing on August 3.
Walters was 4-2 with a 4.56 ERA in nine starts with the Bisons (49.1 IP, 41 SO).
