Pitching duel ends in a Chukars win
The Helena Brewers (6-10) fell 3-1 in the series opener of a three-game set Tuesday to the Idaho Falls Chukars (8-7).
Brandon Woodruff had one of his best outings of the year in the start for Helena. The righty pitched five innings, giving up just one run on three hits and striking out a season-high four batters.
The Brewers would take the first lead of the game by way of a Sthervin Matos home run. It was a solo shot over the scoreboard to pull him into a tie for the team lead with Mitch Meyer. Both have six round-trippers this season.
The Chukars would take control shortly after. They tied it in the fifth on an RBI grounder from Luis Valenzuela and grabbed the lead in the sixth on a fielding error by Gregory Munoz. With two on and two out, Munoz let a slow roller get through his legs to score two unearned runs.
That would give Devin Williams (4-6) the loss and a decision in 10 straight appearances.
The Brewers and the Chukars will face off in the second game of their three-game series Wednesday from Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
