Homestand: Latin Heritage, Bark in the Park and more

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) A Latin Heritage celebration and the final Bark in the Park Night for 2014 are among the highlights of the Lexington Legends' seven-game homestand that begins Thursday, August 14.

  The Legends, class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, will take on the West Virginia Power, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, in a four-game series starting Thursday. The Delmarva Shorebirds, an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will be in for a three-game series beginning Monday night.

  The schedule:

    Thursday, August 14:  Legends vs. West Virginia, 7:05 p.m. Fans are invited to bring their dogs for Bark in the Park, presented by IncrediPet.   A two-dollar donation for each dog will benefit the Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). The first 300 dogs through the gates will receive an IncrediPet bandana. There will be a Doggie Parade before the game, and several contests for dogs, such as best dressed, longest tail and Big L lookalike, will be held during the game. A raffle will offer a chance to win a year's supply of dog food. Thursday night is also a Kentucky Ale Thirsty Thursday, and beer and Pepsi products will be on sale for one dollar each.  

    Friday, August 15:  Legends vs. West Virginia, 7:05 p.m. Following the game, Legends' President/COO Andy Shea and catcher Chad Johnson will demonstrate their support for the fight against childhood cancers by having their heads shaved. Johnson is involved in fund-raising through a Vs. Cancer web page. The Legends will host Boy Scouts from around the region for an overnight campout following the game.

    Saturday, August 16: Legends vs. West Virginia, 7:05 p.m.   Saturday is Hearing Loss Awareness night. Representatives of Bluegrass Hearing Clinic will be at the ballpark to provide information and assistance, and will give away 5,000 disposable earplugs. 

                A Ford Fireworks show will follow the game.

    Sunday, August 17: Legends vs. West Virginia, 2:05 p.m. A Latin Heritage celebration will feature the Kentucky Salsa All-Stars and will honor the cultural contributions of the Latin community. The Cardinal Valley Folk Dance Group will also perform. Radio Vida, 1440 AM, will provide a play-by-play broadcast of the Legends' game in Spanish.   

  Monday, August 18:  Legends vs. Delmarva, 7:05 p.m.   Monday is Kids Eat Free night, presented by Members Heritage Federal Credit Union. Kids age 12 and under will receive a voucher for a free meal and drink. The Legends also will present Service Industry Appreciation Night, a celebration that will include special in-game promotions to recognize those who work in service industry jobs.

    Tuesday, August 19: Legends vs. Delmarva, 7:05 p.m. Tuesday is 37-cent hot dog night. The price is in recognition of the Ford F-150 being the best-selling truck for the past 37 consecutive years.

    Wednesday, August 20:  Legends vs. Delmarva, 7:05 p.m. The Legends are holding their own Grandparents Day, as grandparents will receive a two-dollar discount off a box seat ticket. The Legends are also offering a "Senior Special" meal in the Kentucky Ale Taproom starting at 5 p.m. The meal will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans for $10.
