Brett Jackson Traded to Diamondbacks
Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs traded OF Brett Jackson to the Arizona Diamondbacks for RHP Blake Cooper. Jackson will report to the Reno Aces in the Pacific Coast League. RHP Yoanner Negrin re-joins the Iowa Cubs for tonight's game.
Jackson batted .210 (47-for-224) with eight doubles, four triples, five home runs, and 20 RBI in 81 games with Iowa this season. He had four hits, including three for extra-bases, and six RBI in a double-header against Omaha on July 1. Jackson capped his day by hitting a three-run walk-off homer in the second game.
The California native has spent all six years of his career with the Cubs after being drafted by the organization in the first round (31st overall) of the 2009 draft out of the University of California-Berkley. Jackson made his triple-A debut on July 14, 2011 and spent parts of the last four seasons with Iowa. In his I-Cubs career, he hit .246 (254-for-1031) with 50 doubles, 36 home runs, 116 RBI, and 44 stolen bases in 296 career games. He ranks second in franchise history with 21 triples. The 26-year-old made his major league debut on August 5, 2012. He hit .175 (21-for-120) with six doubles, four homers, and nine RBI in 44 games with Chicago to finish that season.
Negrin has appeared in 21 games (3 starts) with Iowa this year and has a 5.36 ERA (29ER/48.2IP) with 55 hits allowed, 27 walks, and 42 strikeouts.
The Cubs and Las Vegas 51s play the final game of their four-game series tonight at 7:05. LH Eric Jokisch (9-8, 3.54) squares off with 51s RH Matthew Bowman (1-1, 2.70). Jokisch leads the PCL in innings pitched (145.0), is tied for the league lead in strikeouts (131), ranks fourth in WHIP (1.14), and sixth in ERA.
