Pena Delivers Indians to Win over Dust Devils

Spokane pitching staff gives up zero walks in 1-0 pitcher's duel

Spokane, WA - The Indians got back in the inning column Saturday night, as Richelson Pena tossed six scoreless innings leading Spokane to a 1-0 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils in front of a sold-out, standing-room only crowd of 7,025 fans at Avista Stadium. It was Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night presented by Yoke's Fresh Market and 92.9 ZZU.

It was a classic pitcher's duel as Pena and Helmis Rodriguez, both Northwest League All-Stars, kept the game scoreless for five full frames. Pena struck out five batters while collecting his fifth win of the season. He sports a 2.89 ERA.

Rodriguez would be the one to give, as he gave up a single to Josh Morgan to score Jose Trevino from third base with two outs in the sixth inning. Morgan raised his average to .316.

Erik Swanson allowed two hits and struck out four in two scoreless innings. Adam Parks threw a perfect ninth for his third save of the season. The Spokane pitching staff didn't allow a single walk for the first time this season.

Eduard Pinto, Trevino, Seth Spivey, Luke Tendler and Fernando Vivili each had a base hit in the contest.

Spokane hosts Tri-City tomorrow, Sunday, August 17th, for the Lone Wolf Harley-Davidson Day Game presented by Lone Wolf Harley-Davidson, KHQ, 98.9 KKZX, and S-R Media/The Spokesman-Review.

Prior to the game the Indians will host the Ride the Bases motorcycle ride presented by U.S. Linen & Uniform, benefiting the Rypien Foundation for child cancer research. . Participants will ride onto the field for the National Anthem and the Spokane Indians players will wear special edition Harley-Davidson jerseys that will be auctioned off throughout the game.
