Improved Menu, Service Highlight Food Changes
This year at Lake Olmstead Stadium when GreenJackets fans spring for traditional ballpark fare like peanuts and Cracker Jack, they'll be purchasing it from a different source.
The 2010 season marks the beginning of the GreenJackets new in-house concessions service. The new service will replace the former concessionaire, Centerplate, a company that served concessions at GreenJackets games for the last five years.
Mark Lawrence has joined the GreenJackets staff as the new Director of Food and Beverage. Lawrence comes to Augusta after spending several years in the same position with the AAA Nashville Sounds. His responsibilities will include creating menus, developing new menu items and improving the service in ballpark concession stands throughout the season.
"I want people to realize that they don't have to stop somewhere for dinner on their way to the game," Lawrence said. "They can get a good meal right here at the ballpark."
With the new service, the GreenJackets front office will have an increased control over the food and beverage operations at Lake Olmstead Stadium. This will give the team a greater flexibility to respond to fan feedback and add new menu items throughout the season. There will also be increased opportunities for fans to add food and beverage voucher options to existing group outings at the ballpark and mini-plans.
The change was made primarily as a result of fan surveys, which are conducted at the ballpark on a nightly basis. GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown is excited to be able to improve the fan experience while giving fans more food options and better service.
"Our surveys revealed that the food service was bringing down scores for our overall fan experience," Brown said. "With this new concessions service, we'll start with the basics and on improving customer service because customer service is what's most important to us. Throughout the season, we'll be able to add new items as we go along and we like that flexibility also."
Another benefit of the changes includes an increased ability to bring outside food vendors into the ballpark. In addition to Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, which came to the menu last year, the GreenJackets will now also serve Domino's Pizza and Brusters Ice Cream at games this season.
Fans can experience the new concessions at the GreenJackets home opener on Friday April 16th when the Jackets open their 2010 home schedule against the Charleston RiverDogs. The April 16th contest will begin at a special 7:35 p.m. start time and tickets currently are available for each and every game on a single-game basis. Season tickets can also currently be obtained by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
