Johnson Wins California League Player of the Week
(San Bernardino)-A member of the Inland Empire 66ers took home the California League Player of the Week Award for the second week as second baseman Sherman Johnson received the honor for the week of August 11th-August 17th. Johnson's hot play was a big part of the reason that the 66ers have been able to reel off ten wins in a row. The victories have placed Inland Empire in a first place tie for the second half southern division crown.
From the leadoff spot, the Florida State product went 15-23 (a .625 average) while driving in eight runs including two home runs and having an eight game hitting streak coming into action today. Adding to the impressive stretch was the fact that Sherman Johnson reached base in 15 straight plate appearances during the week's action. This week's play helped raise Johnson's batting average from .247 to .266 and his on base percentage from .358 to .375.
The reigning California League Champions continue play at San Manuel Stadium for the final homestand of the regular season, Tuesday, when they open up a three game series with the Bakersfield Blaze.
