Fourth Straight Win Keeps Omaha Rolling

Carlos Peguero hits league-leading 10th homer of August
August 19, 2014

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (69-60) won their fourth straight home game, tied for the longest win streak at Werner Park this season, as they defeated the Las Vegas 51s (72-59) by a score of 9-5. Omaha will maintain at least a 2.0 game edge in the American Conference North Division pending the outcome of Oklahoma City's game in Sacramento, with Iowa losing in Des Moines.

The Chasers took advantage of sloppy play by Las Vegas in the first inning to put up a five spot which included RBI hits by Paulo Orlando and Francisco Pena, two of the four players for Omaha this season with more than 55 RBI. Paul Janish hit his first homer as a Storm Chaser in the third on a solo shot, then Carlos Peguero hit his league-leading tenth home run of August in the fourth inning for his 25th on the season. The last player to hit ten homers in a month for Omaha was Kila Ka'aihue in July of 2010.

Storm Chasers starter Aaron Brooks became the first pitcher on the team to reach ten wins, one of eleven pitchers in the PCL with double-digit victories. His six innings allowing just two runs earned him his seventh quality start of the season, one shy of the team lead held by both John Lamb and Sugar Ray Marimon. Over the last six games, Omaha starters have combined to allow just nine earned runs in 36.1 innings for a 2.23 ERA.

The three wins over Las Vegas clinches a series victory for Omaha, which is only the second non-conference series win in Werner Park history (16 total series). Omaha is now nine games over .500 for the first time since June 18, when they held a record of 41-32. All nine starters for the Chasers collected a hit in the game, led by Johnny Giavotella's three-hit night for his team-leading 41st multi-hit game of the season.

Omaha will go for their sixth sweep in Werner Park history as they send out LHP John Lamb (7-9, 3.62 ERA) in the series finale. He will face off with 51s RHP Cory Mazzoni (3-1, 4.50 ERA), with first pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
