Scrappers Pound Crosscutters 9-1 in Williamsport

Williamsport, PA-With the country's attention aimed just minutes up the road in South Williamsport for the Little League World Series, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers jumped all over the Williamsport Crosscutters and picked up their third straight win at Bowman Field with a 9-1 win.  

Williamsport grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. With one out, Jiandido Tromp connected on his 13th homerun of the season to give the Crosscutters a 1-0 lead.  

The Scrappers offense would stay silent until the top of the 5th inning. D'Vone McClure and Yonathan Mendoza each singled to start the inning. Austin Fisher would sacrifice bunt the runners to second and third. Greg Allen would then pick up an RBI sac fly to score McClure to tie the game at 1. Steven Patterson followed with an RBI single to score Mendoza for the eventual game winning run.  

Mahoning Valley added two more runs in the top of the 6th inning. Francisco Mejia walked to start the inning before moving to second on a passed ball. A ground out would move him to third where he would then score on Taylor Murphy's RBI sac fly. McClure would follow Murphy and would connect on his first homerun of the season, a solo homer for a 4-1 lead.  

The Scrappers would put the game out of reach on the top of the 7th inning. After loading the bases with no outs, Bradley Zimmer would be hit by a pitch to score a run to make the score 5-1. Following a fielder's choice, Leo Castillo would connect on his sixth homerun of the season. The grand slam was his second of the year and pushed the score out to the final of 9-1.  

Juan Santana (1-7) started and went 5 innings. He allowed just 1 run on 3 hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 4 while earning his first win of the season. Justin Garcia would go 2 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 hit and walked 2 while striking out 1. Dominic DeMasi would go a perfect inning of relief after Garcia. He struck out 1. Anthony Vizcaya closed out the game with a scoreless inning of relief. He allowed no hits and walked 2 while striking out 1.
