August 24, 2014

The Rome Braves (29-34) defeated the Charleston RiverDogs (33-30) in twelve innings by a score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon to take two of the three games played against Charleston.

Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Yeicok Calderon. Rome answered in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Joey Meneses, Carlos Franco, and Codey McElroy for the 3-1 score. The 3-1 score would hold until the ninth when Calderon reached on a single and would later cross the plate on a wild pitch to make it a 3-2 game. A fielding error by the Braves would plate two more runs to give the RiverDogs a 4-3 lead. Rome rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the inning when McElroy reached on a triple and was plated on a sacrifice fly by Alejandro Piloto to send the game to extra innings.

The contest would remain scoreless until the bottom of the twelfth when Reed Harper singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a single by Connor Lien, and scored on a wild pitch for the 5-4 Braves victory.

Andy Otero (4-4) gets the win while Evan Rutckyj (4-3) is charged with the loss.
