2014 All-PCL Team Announced

August 25, 2014

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League today announced the 2014 All-PCL Team, as elected by the league's field managers and media representatives.

The elected infield features Fresno's Adam Duvall at first base, Iowa's Arismendy Alcantara at second base, Reno's Andy Marte at third base and his Aces' teammate Nick Ahmed at shortstop. Duvall, Alcantara, and Ahmed have all made their major league debuts this season, while Marte currently sits second in the league with a .333 batting average.

Francisco Pena was voted in at catcher, after setting a new Omaha record for catchers with 27 home runs this season. Brennan Boesch represents Salt Lake as the designated hitter, thanks to a .326 average that ranks third in the league.

The outfield is led by Albuquerque's Joc Pederson who is the first player in the PCL since Los Angeles' Frank Demaree in 1934 to record at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in the same season. The other two outfield spots belong to Sacramento's Shane Peterson and Las Vegas' Matt den Dekker. Peterson has leads the league with 160 hits, while den Dekker owns the PCL's highest batting average with a .334 mark.

Nashville's Jimmy Nelson was elected as the top right-hander starting pitcher, compiling a league-best 1.46 ERA and 0.92 WHIP before joining the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation in July. Tsuyoshi Wada received the most votes among left-handed starters, winning ten games and striking out 120 batters for Iowa. The PCL's saves leader Blake Parker, who has closed out 23 games with Iowa, was voted the best relief pitcher in the league.

Iowa and Reno were the only clubs with multiple players on the All-PCL Team, while Albuquerque, Fresno, Las Vegas, Nashville, Omaha, Sacramento, and Salt Lake each had one representative. The I-Cubs' three representatives are a league-high and the most the club has had in its 17 years as a PCL franchise.

Parker, Pena, Pederson, and Peterson were the only members of the All-PCL Team to also represent the league at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham, North Carolina, in July.
