Davis homers twice, scores five runs
Davis drew a leadoff walk in the 10th against reliever Santiago Ramirez (2-3). After Matt Cepicky fouled out, Rick Short and Juan Melo singled to produce the go-ahead run. Jason Bowers' squeeze bunt added a much-needed insurance tally.
The Royals rallied in the bottom of the inning, getting within a run on Chad Santos' RBI single. But Dan Smith got Paul Phillips to pop out to end the game and record his first save. Smith preserved the win for Christopher Schroder (1-0), who gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings.
There were plenty of hits to go around as the Royals had 15 and the Zephyrs 14. Davis collected a double, two homers and three RBIs. Short had three hits and two RBIs, while Cepicky homered and drove in three.
The only player without a hit for New Orleans was Tyrell Godwin, who recently returned from a stint with the Washington Nationals.
Aaron Guiel carried a big stick for the Royals, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Chris Truby added two doubles and two RBIs for Omaha, which has dropped six straight.
The extra-inning contest took just under four hours to complete.
