Deloitte, Loons Teaming up Again on "Ks for Kids" Fundraiser
This season, Deloitte LLP and the Great Lakes Loons will team up once again to bring the heat in a unique effort to meet the needs of at-risk children in our community.
Deloitte and the Loons will hold a season-long "Ks for Kids" fundraiser that will contribute $5 for every strikeout by a Loons pitcher to five local agencies working with area children. The fundraiser is a continuation from the 2009 season that netted $5,500 and directly benefitted children in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
The program will benefit Girls on the Run, Junior Achievement of Central Michigan, Boy Scouts of America (Lake Huron Council), Shelter House and West Midland Family Center.
"Last year proved that K's for Kids was a winner for our community," said Don Riegger, Managing Partner of Deloitte's Midland office. "We at Deloitte are very excited to take the mound in helping to bring this program back for another season."
"This effort brings baseball, business and the needs of the community all in one place in order to make an impact," said Loons President and General Manager Paul Barbeau. "The Great Lakes Loons are very proud to help facilitate a unique way to address a critical need."
Riegger also said Deloitte is using the program as a way to empower its local employees to volunteer with the five agencies. "This event is a great way to connect our people to the needs that non-profits have in our community, to help foster more year-long involvement," said Riegger. "At Deloitte, our goal is to engage non-profits with not just our funds but also with our time and talents, particularly as it relates to our business skills."
"Last year's program was a great success as each of our nearly 40 Midland-based team members were actively involved in community organizations throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region."
The Great Lakes Loons are the fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. Tickets for the 2010 season are now on sale. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
