HUNTER DOZIER, ALI WILLIAMS SELECTED FOR ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Two current Naturals, Hunter Dozier and Ali Williams, were selected to help represent the Kansas City Royals organization in the 2014 Arizona Fall League. Dozier and Williams will each team up with other representatives from within the Royals, as well as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays and St. Louis Cardinals organizations to form the 2014 Peoria Javelinas' roster. The Javelinas will be managed by 2014 Naturals Manager Vance Wilson.
Drafted eighth overall in the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Stephen F. Austin State University, Dozier ranked as a top-100 prospect in baseball heading into the 2014 season according to BaseballProspectus.com.
In addition to Dozier and Williams, former 2014 Naturals LHP Sam Selman and RHP Jason Adam have also been selected to the Arizona Fall League. Selman, a second round selection by the Royals in 2012 out of Vanderbilt University, went 4-6 with a 3.87 ERA in 28 appearances, 16 starts, for the Naturals this season before the Royals promoted him to Triple-A Omaha. Adam, meanwhile, will represent the Minnesota Twins organization as part of the Salt River Rafters team. The Royals traded their 2010 fifth round selection to the Twins for Josh Willingham earlier this month. Adam won 12 games for the Naturals over parts of the 2013 and 2014 season.
Arizona Fall League rosters are made up of 35 players per team, and each Major League organization must select seven players from their organization. All Triple-A and Double-A players are eligible, provided they are on a Double-A roster no later than August 15. Each organization is also permitted to send two High-A players, and may also select foreign players, as long as the player is not on his native country's primary protected player list. For the Kansas City Royals, they have selected Raul Mondesi, Bubba Starling and Miguel Almonte (Santiago, Dominican Republic) from High-A Wilmington to join Dozier, Williams and Selman on the roster. The Royals currently have one more player remaining to select for the Peoria roster.
The Arizona Fall League commences on Tuesday, October 7 as Peoria will take on the Surprise Saguaros. The season lasts through mid-November as each team will play games on Monday-Saturday with off days on Sunday. The season wraps up on November 13.
