Isotopes Rally With Five Runs In The Eighth To Beat Las Vegas 9-6

August 30, 2014

NEED TO KNOW: Behind a five-run eighth inning, the Albuquerque Isotopes (61-79) rallied for a 9-6 victory against the Las Vegas 51s (80-62) in game two of a four-game series Friday night at Isotopes Park. The Topes scored eight of their nine runs in the sixth inning or later.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: Las Vegas took control of the game after a two-run second inning but could never pull away. Albuquerque answered with a single tally in the third on a Walter Ibarra two-out RBI single. The 51s scored three in the sixth, but the Isotopes again answered with Clint Robinson's first two-run homer of the evening to make it 5-3. Both teams traded runs in the seventh thanks to Carlos Triunfel's RBI groundout. Robinson again homered in the eighth to tie the game up before Triunfel's three-run blast gave the Isotopes the lead for good.

C. ROB HIT: Clint Robinson mashed a pair of two-run homers, his 17th and 18th of the season. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI in addition to his two blasts. It was the 14th multi-home run game of the season by an Isotope and the first by Robinson. In his last nine games, he is batting .381 (16-for-42) with nine runs scored, three doubles, two triples, two home runs, 10 RBI and four walks. His 18 long balls and 79 RBI are each now third-most in his eight-year career.

TRIUNFEL THE TERRIFIC: Carlos Triunfel's two-out, three-run home run gave the Isotopes a 9-6 lead in the ninth. He finished the evening 3-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBI, a double and a homer. It was his fourth home run of the year, two of which have come in the eighth inning to give the Isotopes a lead.

BYE-BYE LITTLE CHUCKY: While Joc Pederson turned in a 1-for-3 game with two runs scored, the 22-year-old prospect parted ways with his 1994 Buick Century, nicknamed "Little Chucky," as part of a giveaway following the game. A lucky fan named Renee was the night's lucky winner.

FAN APPRECIATION, APPLIANCE GIVEAWAY AND FIREWORKS: The Isotopes' fan appreciation weekend continues Sunday night as more prizes will be given away. More than $30,000 in prizes will be given away throughout the weekend. Sunday night also marks the final post-game fireworks show of the season presented by Baillio's. There will be an appliance giveaway courtesy of Baillio's as well.
