Thank You From Team President Greg Coleman

September 2, 2014

Dear SeaWolves fans,

Thank you for your continued support. The SeaWolves' 20th season was filled with fun, excitement and memories. It's hard to believe that we'll have to wait until April 9 for the next pitch to be thrown.

The SeaWolves finished the 2014 season with a 71-71 record under first-year manager Lance Parrish. While the season ended two weeks sooner than we would've liked, it was filled with gutsy plays, unsung heroes, and standout performances.

The emergence of Steven Moya was the headline story of 2014. The slugger with light-tower power filled his locker with accolades. After representing the SeaWolves at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, he hit a grand slam to earn the Top Star Award at the Eastern League All-Star Game. He was named Eastern League Player of the Month in July and capped the season by being named the circuit's Most Valuable Player. Moya also re-wrote the Erie SeaWolves record book along the way, setting new single-season marks for home runs (35), extra-base hits (71), total bases (286) and runs batted in (105). Moya's great season concluded with a September callup to the Tigers where he singled in his first major league at-bat.

There were several notable accomplishments recognized this season. Minor League President Pat O'Conner visited Erie to present Wade Gaynor and Jason Krizan with their 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Corey Jones, Ramon Cabrera, and Jose Valdez joined Moya in the 2014 Eastern League All-Star Game. Devon Travis and Moya were both named to the 2014 Eastern League Postseason All-Star team, and Jamie Johnson became Erie's all-time steals leader when he swiped his 60th career base on August 18.

The SeaWolves continued to send a steady supply of players to the Detroit Tigers. Tyler Collins, a member of the 2013 SeaWolves playoff team, earned a roster spot with the Tigers out of spring training. Collins was the just the start though as 13 total players from the 2013 and 2014 SeaWolves squads have made their Tigers debut this season to date.

After starting the 2014 season in Erie, Eugenio Suarez has become a key cog for the Tigers at shortstop. In addition to Collins and Suarez, pitchers Drew VerHagen, Blaine Hardy, Melvin Mercedes, James McCann and Kyle Lobstein from the 2013 team and Corey Knebel, Chad Smith, Pat McCoy, Kyle Ryan, Steven Moya and Buck Farmer from the 2014 roster all spent time in Motown In addition, the Tigers moved Miguel Cabrera to first base, allowing 2012 SeaWolves alum Nick Castellanos to establish himself as the Tigers' everyday third baseman.

The SeaWolves increased total and average attendance in 2014 while surpassing 200,000 fans for the 11th consecutive season. The team continued its commitment to supporting community causes through awareness events and fundraising programs. By the end of 2014, the team will have donated over $250,000 in goods, services, and funds to area non-profit efforts. The team also added several new community affairs programs including a season-long Gloves for Kids initiative presented by Northwest Savings Bank, two days of baseball instruction for kids and adults from the Barber National Institute, and the Erie Times-News Home Run Reader Challenge to inspire summertime reading.

Please be sure to visit seawolves.com frequently this offseason and follow the team on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates. Thank you again for a fun 2014 season, and we look forward to seeing you at the ballpark in 2015.

All the best,
Greg
