Wilmington, DE - The Carolina League has announced that Wilmington Blue Rocks starting pitcher and Sean Manaea is the league's Pitcher of the Week for August 25-September 1.

In his start against the Potomac Nationals on Monday, Manaea was masterful across seven shutout innings. He yielded just three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out a career-high 12. Manaea's 12 punchouts also established a new 2014 Blue Rocks individual season-high.

The award is Manaea's first Carolina League honor of the season.

Manaea, who resides in Wanatah, Indiana, was selected No. 34 overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 2013 Draft. Manaea underwent hip surgery after the draft and did not pitch professionally until he joined the Blue Rocks for the 2014 campaign.
