Sherman Johnson Once Again Nabs Weekly Honors

(San Bernardino) - Inland Empire 66ers second baseman Sherman Johnson was named California League Offensive Player of the Week for August 25th through September first. It was the Tampa, FL second time winning the award in the last three weeks as Johnson earned the honor for his work between August 11th through 17th as well.
 
With his latest efforts, Johnson helped push the Inland Empire 66ers to the second half title in the California League's Southern Division. After opening the half at 1-13, the 66ers finished won 36 of their next 56 to win the division by two games. Johnson, who finished the regular season on a nine-game hitting streak, batted .469 for the week (15-for-32) with a .541 on-base percentage and a 1.031 OPS. The Florida State Seminole had five homers in the week and had a stretch of four consecutive games with a long ball. He scored 11 runs for that stretch as well as knocking in nine RBI. The left-handed batting Johnson took five walks, had a double and his league-best 13th triple.
 
The former 14th round pick of the Los Angeles Angels finished the regular season appearing in 136 of Inland Empire's 140 contests. He batted .276 with a .382 on-base percentage. Johnson, who was named the best defensive second baseman by Baseball America, pounded 17 homers, 13 triples and 23 doubles in 2014 for Inland Empire.
