Parke Steps Down As Travs President

Meeks Becomes Fifth Travs Prez Since 1960
April 14, 2010
NORTH LITTLE ROCK - After 30 years serving as the president of the Arkansas Travelers, Bert Parke has decided to step down from his position. He made the announcement at the annual preseason stockholders meeting held at Dickey-Stephens Park before the club's first official practice on Tuesday, April 6. Russ Meeks has been elected as the Travs' fifth team president since the franchise became a fan-owned, public entity before the 1960 season.

"I've enjoyed my time as team president," said Mr. Parke. "I love the Travelers and the game of baseball more than I can express, and I'm proud to have helped accomplish the goal of keeping professional baseball here in Central Arkansas during my tenure."

Mr. Parke, 80, has been a fixture at Travs games for years rarely missing a ballgame during his time as team president. He will remain on the team's executive committee and retains the title of president emeritus.

"It's an honor to follow in the footsteps of someone like Bert Parke," said Mr. Meeks, who has served 16 years as a vice president on the Travelers' executive committee. "I look forward to continuing the tradition of Arkansas Traveler baseball for future generations."
