September 4, 2014

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Suns general manager Chris Peters has been named the 2014 Southern League Jimmy Bragan Executive of the Year, announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.

Peters will be officially recognized for this honor at the Southern League Fall Meetings, as well as the Minor League Baseball Winter Meetings in San Diego this December.

"This is a great honor and I am proud to accept on behalf of our entire organization and front office as this is a reflection of how great of a staff we have and how hard everyone works to ensure a great experience for all of our fans," Peters said.

This season the Suns saw an increase in attendance by over 5,000 fans to a yearly total of 300, 538. Peters, the chairman of the Southern League marketing committee, also negotiated a lucrative sponsorship deal with BC Powder, benefitting all ball clubs in the league.

"In the time he has been here in Jacksonville Chris has blossomed into one of the best general managers in the minor leagues," said Suns president and owner Peter Bragan, Jr. "I am as proud as I can be for him to win the award, and I know Uncle Jimmy would be too."

Peters is the third member of the Suns front office to win this honor, and the award comes during his third season as Suns general manager.

This is the seventh season Peters has worked with the Suns. Peters, a native of Clearwater, Florida, is a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in sport management. Prior to his time in Jacksonville he worked for the Clearwater Threshers, the New York Yankees, and the Ft. Meyers Miracle.

Peters and his wife Sandy welcomed their first child Reese to the family in August 2013.

The executive of the year award is named for Jimmy Bragan, brother of late Suns owner Peter Bragan, Sr., and uncle of Suns owner and president Peter Bragan Jr. Bragan served as Southern League President from 1981-1994 after a successful baseball career as a player, manager, and coach.
