Giants Trade Fred Lewis to Toronto Blue Jays for a Player to be Named Later or Cash Considerations
Lewis, who returned from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated from the 15-day disabled list today, was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft and batted .277 (258-for-931) with 53 doubles, 16 triples, 16 home runs and 81 RBI in 326 Major League games for San Francisco.
The 29-year-old began the 2010 season on the disabled list, being placed there on April 4 (retroactive to March 27) with a left intercostal strain, which he suffered during Spring Training. On a Major League rehab assignment with triple-A Fresno, Lewis batted .409 (9-for-22) with six runs scored, three doubles, a triple, a home run, six RBI and six walks in seven games. He was the only Grizzlies player to hit safely in the teams first seven contests.
The Giants' Opening Day left fielder in 2009, Lewis hit a career-low .258 (76-for-295) with four home runs and 20 RBI in 122 games for the Giants last season.
With today's transaction the Giants now have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
