Memphis struggles to score taking a 0-7 loss against Oklahoma City
Memphis, TN- The Memphis Redbirds were welcomed back to AutoZone Park today for the first time this season. The atmosphere of over 10,000 fans was brewing with excitement and the 'Birds were ready to play against Oklahoma City. That is until Adam Ottavino (1-1) gave up two home runs in his first two innings, giving OKC a 3-0 lead. Ottavino allowed five runs overall.
RedHawk Chad Tracy hit a two-run home run in the first and Matt Brown followed suit hitting one of his two home runs of the game in the second inning.
The Redbirds fought to put a run on the board, but were unsuccessful and went nine innings with only six hits.
Geoff Geary (1-2), who earned the win for the 'Hawks, pitched three innings, facing only three consecutive batters each time.
Matt Scherer replaced Ottavino in the sixth, only to allow another two hits and Matt Brown his second home run, to bump the RedHawks to a 6-0 lead.
Rich Rundles followed in the eighth with two hits and one more run, making the final score 7-0.
The Redbirds stayed positive about the loss, showing much promise of improvement in days to come. Matt Pagnozzi, who earned two of the Redbirds hits for the game said, "We need to stay aggressive, tomorrow is another day. We need to go on out there and be ready to win."
Jon Jay also had the same attitude saying, "It's just one of those days...we've got 130-something more games, we just need to keep on working. We've got a good group of guys, so we'll be alright."
The fans still enjoyed the game despite the loss, especially the post-game fireworks to celebrate the homecoming of our 2009 PCL Champs.
Tomorrow's start time is 6:05 p.m. against Oklahoma City. Brandon Dickson vs. Michael Ballard.
