RedHawks Mow Down 'Birds, 4-0

Volquez fans 10 Redbirds as Oklahoma takes series

Memphis, Tenn. - Texas Rangers top prospect Edinson Volquez was impressive in Oklahoma's 4-0 victory over Memphis Thursday night at AutoZone Park.

Volquez (4-5) dominated Memphis for seven innings before giving way to the bullpen. The right-hander struck out 10 Redbirds and allowed only two hits with three walks in earning his fourth win of the season. Memphis struck out at least once in all nine innings for the second game in the series.

Oklahoma blew the game open in the sixth inning with three runs, including a two-run home run from Jason Hart. Laynce Nix, Adam Hyzdu and Nick Trzesniak all had two-hit games for the RedHawks. Memphis was held to a season-low two hits. Derek Wathan and Brian Martin were the only 'Birds to collect hits. Travis Smith (2-2) took the loss for Memphis after allowing four runs on seven hits in seven innings.

Memphis will welcome Omaha to town beginning tomorrow. Cardinals No. 1 prospect Anthony Reyes (3-1) will head to the hill in the first game of the series. Denny Bautista (0-0) will start for the Royals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
