Gimme five! Lewis' blast extends win streak
The Dash and Indians (3-7) each scored in the first inning off sacrifice fly balls and again plated single runs in the third. Nate Recknagel's RBI groundout gave Kinston a brief 2-1 lead, but Winston-Salem tied it up in the bottom of the inning on Seth Loman's run-scoring double.
The Dash took its first lead in the fourth when Drew Garcia drove in new Winston catcher Jason Bour with single to right, making it 3-2.
Kinston struck for a pair in the seventh inning of reliever Tyson Corley, who allowed three straight hits to start the frame. One run scored on a Donnie Webb double play ball and the Indians re-claimed the lead on Kyle Bellows' RBI double.
Trailing 4-3, Winston-Salem put itself into the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Seth Loman unloaded on the first pitch he saw from Kinston's Travis Turek for a two-run home run to straightaway center field. It was Loman's first homer of the season after he hit 23 in 2009 and it gave the Dash a 5-4 lead.
The Indians would not relent against Corley, tagging the Kansas native with two more runs in the eighth and moving ahead 6-5.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth, when Winston-Salem started its rally with two outs. Loman walked and was replaced by Kenny Williams, Jr. on the base paths. The pinch runner proved to be unnecessary, as Lewis blasted the second pitch from K-Tribe closer Steve Smith (0-1) over the left field lawn section for the game winning home run.
Gregory Infante (1-0) worked an inning and a third of shutout baseball to pick up his first win of the season.
The walk-off win was the second in four games for the Dash, which beat Potomac 7-6 in ten innings on Thursday night on a Drew Garcia single.
Both starters were not sharp and did not earn decisions. The Dash's Stephen Sauer walked six but only yielded two runs over five innings, while Kinston's Joey Mahalic surrendered nine base hits and three runs in four innings.
Winston-Salem begins a four-game series at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday night. Justin Edwards (1-0, 1.64) starts against Myrtle's Randall Delgado (0-0, 0.90). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at BB&T Coastal Field. The webcast pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
