DuBose, Baysox stifle Defenders

Lefty doesn't allow runner past first base in three-hitter
June 18, 2006
Eric DuBose fired a three-hitter on Sunday as the Bowie Baysox rolled to a 10-0 victory over the Connecticut Defenders at Dodd Memorial Stadium.

DuBose (2-0) walked one, hit a batter and matched a season high with six strikeouts. The southpaw did not face more than three batters in an inning -- thanks to two double plays and one runner who was caught stealing -- until the bottom of the seventh.

DuBose threw his last complete-game shutout in 1998 while pitching for Double-A Huntsville of the Southern League. He went the distance for the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 12, 2003, against Toronto.

Led by Leo Daigle, the visiting Baysox (28-38) gave DuBose plenty of run support. Daigle went 2-for-4 with two home runs, including a three-run shot in the eighth, and four RBIs. It was the first multi-homer game this season for Daigle, who won the Carolina League triple crown in 2005.

Mario Delgado was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs, while Noah Hall also drove in a pair as he went 3-for-5.

Brian Horwitz, Jake Wald and Brian Munhall had one hit apiece for Connecticut (31-34), which failed to get a runner past first base.

Starter Chris Begg (5-7) took the loss, allowing six runs -- two earned -- on six hits while striking out three and walking two in seven innings.
