Castaneda Headed to Omaha

The Kansas City Royals announced Saturday that right-hander Federico Castaneda has been transferred to Triple-A Omaha, the Royals' top level affiliate in the Pacific Coast League.

Castaneda, the 26-year old from Torreon, Mexico, moves up after making three scoreless appearances from the Naturals' pen to start the season, allowing just two hits over 9 2/3 innings pitched in this young season. The breaking ball specialist has reprised his role from the second half of last season as one of Manager Brian Poldberg's most trusted late inning relief options.

His performance earned him the nod as the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 12th-18th. Castaneda was signed as a minor league free agent in late 2008 after spending several seasons in the Mexican League.

The Naturals' roster now stands at 23, one below the Texas League limit of 24 active players.
