Oakland A's Sign New PDC with Beloit
BELOIT, Wisc.- The Beloit Snappers are pleased to announce the signing of a new two-year player development contract with the Oakland Athletics. The new contract will run through the end of the 2016 season. The Snappers have been affiliated with the A's since the 2013 season.
"We are extremely happy about the A's coming back to Beloit. We have had a great relationship with Oakland the last two years and are pleased to continue it," said Dennis Conerton, President of the Beloit Snappers. "The Oakland A's have a national presence and are well respected throughout baseball, which in turn expands the Beloit Snappers fan base."
The Oakland Athletics are a member of the Western Division of Major League Baseball's American League, and have a great history of success. The Oakland A's organization and their baseball philosophy were the subject of Michael Lewis' best-selling book, 'Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game.' The book was made into a movie in 2011 called 'Moneyball', which starred Brad Pitt.
"We are pleased to continue our working relationship with Beloit," said A's Vice President and General Manager Billy Beane. "Dennis Conerton and his staff have done an outstanding job during the two seasons we have spent with the Snappers. It continues to be a mutually beneficial affiliation, and we look forward to growing this partnership in the years to come."
The Snappers have been an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics for the past two seasons. In 2013, the Snappers went 77-62 and were eliminated from the Western Division Finals of the Midwest League Playoffs by the eventual champions, the Quad Cities River Bandits. In 2014, the team went 55-84.
Oakland is only the third Major League affiliate for the Snappers in its 33 year history. The previous affiliates of Beloit were the Milwaukee Brewers and the Minnesota Twins.
Besides Beloit, the other Oakland A's minor league affiliates are Triple-A Nashville (Pacific Coast League), Double-A Midland (Texas League), Single-A Stockton (California League), Short-Season A Vermont (New York-Penn League) and Rookie League Arizona (Arizona League).
The Beloit Snappers open up the 2015 season on the road on Thursday, April 9th against the Clinton Lumberkings. The home opener at Pohlman Field will be Wednesday, April 15th against the Quad Cities River Bandits.
