Bees Home to Host Portland for Four
The Bees (8-10) currently sit in third in the PCL Northern Division standings, half a game behind Portland (9-10). A series win could help launch Salt Lake back to the top of the pack with Colorado Springs which currently sits in front at two and half games ahead.
Bees left-hander Daniel Davidson is expected to start the series on the mound for Salt Lake after a two-day postponement from his last scheduled start date on Monday. Davidson (2-0) had a great outing in Salt Lake last week (April 20) against the Las Vegas 51s where he pitched a solid six and two-third innings allowing only five hits and two runs. Davidson currently leads the Bees with a low 1.13 WHIP.
PCL Pitcher of the Week (April 19-25) Radhames Liz is set to take the mound for Portland to open the series in Salt Lake. Liz matched a franchise record on April 22 against Sacramento with 11 strikeouts in six innings pitched. Liz is 2-0 in three starts with a 2.57 ERA. He currently ranks fourth in the PCL with 22 strikeouts on the season. The Bees batting has come alive as of late with Michael Ryan leading the team with his .354 batting average, ranking ninth in the league. Ryan has collected 17 hits with 48 plate appearances while only striking out five times.
Mark Trumbo has been a powerhouse behind the plate thus far this season, leading the team in homeruns (five) and second in RBI (11). Trumbo currently sits third in the league with his five homeruns.
Peter Bourjos still leads the league in triples with five but has yet to produce one since the Bees opening day in Salt Lake on April 17.
Salt Lake welcomed Trevor Bell back to the roster with hopes to make some improvements on the mound after a struggling start to the season. The Bees own the fourth-highest team ERA at 4.96 and have the fewest strikeouts in the league. Bell worked brilliantly against the rehabbing former CY Young Award winner Cliff Lee, on April 25 against Tacoma. Bell pitched six and two third innings allowing only one run to pick up his first win of the season.
