Lars Anderson Added to PawSox Roster
Lars Anderson, 22, who has dominated the Double-A Eastern League thus far this season for the Portland Sea Dogs, has been promoted to the Pawtucket Red Sox and may make his PawSox and McCoy Stadium debut tonight (Thursday) or tomorrow night when the PawSox host the Indianapolis Indians - both at 6:15 pm.
Anderson was hitting .355 in 17 games for Portland this season as he ranked 3rd in the Eastern League in batting and was tied for 2nd in both HR (5) and RBI (16). He also led the league with a .677 slugging pct. and was T2nd in total bases with 42. His overall line was 22-for-62 with 13 runs scored, 5 2B, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 7 BB, 16 SO, 1 SB and 1 error in 17 games (all at first base). He had reached base safely in 16 of his 17 games played, had a season-high 7-game hitting streak from April 11-19 (9-for-24, .375) and was currently riding a 6-game hitting streak with the Sea Dogs (10-for-21, .476) at this time of his promotion to Pawtucket. He hit .350 vs. lefty pitching (7-for-20) and .357 vs. right-handed pitching (15-for-42 with all 5 of his HR).
Anderson, who predominately batted 5th in the Portland line-up this season, went 3-for-4 with a run scored in his last Sea Dogs' game on Tuesday night to lead Portland to a 2-0 win at Binghamton. In his previous game last Sunday he was 2-for-5 with a season-high 4 RBI including an RBI single in the 7th-inning and a tie-breaking 3-run HR in the 9th-inning to give Portland a 9-5 victory at Trenton.
Anderson, who is ranked as Boston's #4 prospect by Baseball America after earning the #1 ranking prior to the 2009 season, spent all of last season with Portland and was a mid-season Eastern League All-Star. He hit .272 with 8 HR & 42 RBI in 79 games prior to All-Star break. Overall he batted .233 in 119 games with 9 HR & 51 RBI. That followed a 2008 season when he combined to hit .317 with 18 HR & 80 RBI with Lancaster (A) and Portland (AA). Lars, a native of Fair Oaks, CA, was Boston's 18th round pick in the 2006 first-year player draft out of Jesuit (CA) High School. He spent most of his first professional season with Greenville (A) where he batted .288 with 10 HR & 69 RBI in 124 games before finishing the year at Lancaster (A) where he hit .343 in 10 games.
