Danville, VA -- The Burlington Indians evened their series against the Danville Braves on Thursday night with a 4-2 victory at Legion Post 325 Field in Dan Daniel Memorial Park. Burlington starting pitcher, Michael Storey pitched four innings giving up 2 runs, both of which were unearned. Both runs came in the fourth inning when Ernesto Mejia and Phillip Britton reached on back to back singles for the Braves. Concepcion Rodriguez popped out, and Brandon Monk reached on an error. Willie Cabrera drove in a run with a single up the middle, and then a passed ball allowed Phillip Britton to score. The Danville Braves were not able to put together any more offensive production, as the Burlington bullpen pitched 5 strong innings giving up just 5 hits and allowing no runs. Osiris Perez, Brady Halverson, and Nate Bunton pitched well, and Bunton earned his first save of the season in the 9th.
Offensively, the Indians were lead by Argenis Tavarez and Mike Butia, who had three hits each. Tavarez also pitched in with 2 RBIs. Butia singled in the top of the second with two outs. He then stole second base, getting a great jump off of the Braves' pitcher, Tommy Hanson. Tavarez then ripped low line drive into right field scoring Butia from second.
The deciding game of the three game series will be played Friday night in Danville, and then the Indians will return to Burlington for the Home Opener against Bristol on Saturday. There will be an Old-Timer's game at 5 pm. The Indians and Whitesox will play at 6:30pm, and a brilliant fireworks display will follow the game.
