Hanser Alberto named Rawlings Gold Glove winner

Frisco shortstop earns minor league defensive honor
September 30, 2014

FRISCO, TEXAS (SEPTEMBER 30, 2014) - Frisco RoughRiders shortstop Hanser Alberto has been selected as a winner of a 2014 Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award for defensive excellence at his position. Alberto was selected as the best defensive shortstop among all minor league teams. He and the other eight winners at their respective positions will receive their own Rawlings Gold Glove award trophies, which will be presented to each individual player in a pre-game ceremony during the 2015 season.

Alberto, 21, played 114 of his 119 defensive games at shortstop for Frisco and Advanced-A Myrtle Beach this season. He posted an outstanding .980 fielding percentage at shortstop between the two affiliates and exhibited some of his best defense after an early July promotion to Double-A. In 50 Texas League games at shortstop, Alberto committed just three errors and posted a .988 fielding percentage, the best among all shortstops in the TL who played at least 50 games.

This marks the second time in three years that a RoughRiders player has won this prestigious award. After the 2012 season, former Frisco center fielder Engel Beltre was selected as the Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner for his position.
