Miracle "Diamond Cutters" honored by FSL

Fort Myers grounds crew wins Municipality Award for 16th time

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 10, 2014) - Florida State League President Chuck Murphy announced the 2014 Florida State League Sports Turf Crew Awards and the Fort Myers Miracle "Diamond Cutters" won the Municipality Award for the 16th time.


The FSL Municipality Award is given to the best City or County operated Sports Turf Crew in the Florida State League. The Miracle, with Sports Turf Manager Keith Blasingim have received 19 Sports Turf Awards since 1990.
"Just like the Miracle team on the field, this crew was first place all season long," said Miracle General Manager Andrew Seymour.

Hammond Stadium hosts over 130 days of baseball from the beginning of Minnesota Twins Spring Training to the Miracle season and the Roy Hobbs World Series in the fall.

The awards, initiated in 1990, are selected by Field Managers and Pitching Coaches of each team in the FSL. The five awards are Best Overall Award, Municipality Award and three FSL Commendation Certificates.

The Best Overall Award went to the Clearwater Threshers for the 11th year in a row. Clearwater Sports Turf Manager Opie Cheek was named the FSL Turf Manager of the Year for the 11th time.

The three teams receiving FSL Commendation Certificates are the Bradenton Marauders, Charlotte Stone Crabs and the Jupiter Hammerheads/Palm Beach Cardinals. Jupiter and Palm Beach share Roger Dean Stadium during the season.
