Smokies Stadium Ranked No. 24 MiLB Park
Stadium Journey revealed their 2014 Minor League Baseball Ballpark Rankings, with Smokies Stadium ranked as the 24th-best stadium among all 159 ballparks in the circuit. The ranking marks a significant leap from the 2013 rankings, which placed the park at No. 48 last year.
Only two other Southern League ballparks, Pensacola's Bayfront Stadium and Missisissippi's Trustmark Park, were ranked higher than Smokies Stadium in 2014. The 24-place boost was also the highest among all Southern League stadiums, and the fourth-best of all Double-A facilities.
In their online review of Smokies Stadium, which can be viewed at www.StadiumJourney.com, the park received high marks in the "Food and Beverage", "Atmosphere", "Fans", "Access", "Return On Investments" and "Extras" categories. The article also states of Smokies Stadium "whether a diehard, a fan passing by, or someone looking to do a little something different in the Smokies after a long day of hiking, a game at Smokies [Stadium] will have everything a fan needs to enjoy a baseball game.
Prior to the 2014 season, the ballpark underwent massive enhancements to further improve the fan experience, including a revamping of the suite level, along with new premium group areas such as Calhoun's At The Yard and Homer the Hound's Play Area. Thanks in part to these changes, the club set a new single-season franchise attendance record by welcoming 283,038 guests through the gates of Smokies Stadium during the 2014 campaign. The team also averaged over 4,000 fans for the first time in the franchise's history.
